Ostrich Boys

Reviewed by Henry Fox

Kenny, Sim and Blake are about to embark on a remarkable journey. Stealing the urn that contains the ashes of their best friend Ross, they set out to travel 261 miles from Cleethorpes on the English east coast to the tiny hamlet of Ross in southern Scotland. After a depressing and dispiriting funeral they feel that taking Ross to Ross will be a fitting memorial for a fifteen-year-old boy, who changed all their lives through his friendship. Little do they realize just how much Ross can still affect life for them even though he’s dead.

I really enjoyed Ostrich Boys, although I didn’t really think that it was very realistic and believable. It is not very likely that fifteen year old boys would steal the ashes of their friend and take them up to Scotland for a burial. The characters were described extremely well and the book conveyed their thoughts and feelings in a realistic manner. I thought that the author Keith Gray made the book really interesting and gripping and it had a really good ending which really finished off the story. The book was quite an easy read, but was well suited to my age category. Overall I really enjoyed the book.
