Liam is a twelve year old boy. He has the mind of a twelve year old, the metabolism of a twelve year old but the body of a thirty year old. Or at least that’s what it looks like. Liam is mistaken for someone twenty years older than himself, which makes his friend Florida look more like his daughter. When they win the chance to go to a new theme park as father and daughter in China, things start to take a turn for the worse. This book began as a page turner, and stayed that way throughout the entire story. Telling the story from the conclusion was very effective because you keep wondering how they ended up in that situation; a very good way to keep the reader guessing. It’s quite obvious that it is aimed at young teenagers (or younger) because we all know how it feels to be written off by adults because we are younger, and some how ‘less than them’.But Liam has the opportunity to be treated like an adult, and he takes it and holds on with all his might. It’s really shows teenagers like us, that being an adult brings responsibilities (even thought most would know that by now) and Liam realises he’s bitten off more than he can chew when he goes to China, telling his parents he’s off on a school trip to the Lake District.
I really enjoyed Cosmic however it’s probably aimed at children younger than fourteen because it was such an easy read.
