What I Was

Reviewed by Tim Redman

This is a book about love. Hilary is a 16 year-old boy who has been expelled from his two previous schools because he can’t be bothered to do his work. He has been sent to a boarding school. While there one day, bunking off from PE, he goes down to the coast and finds a hut with a pretty boy named Finn. Not registered at birth, Finn likes to keep himself to himself until one day he falls ill.

I didn’t enjoy this book very much. I thought that the author had got a great idea but had failed to get it to reach its full potential. The ending was the biggest let down. There was much that the author left unanswered. The author also gave you too much information allowing you to see surprises a mile off.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to read this book and give it only 5/10.
