Finding Violet Park

Reviewed by Kamini Tailor

Violet Park had a secret. But how was she going to keep it?

Finding Violet Park is about Lucas Swain, a fifteen year-old boy living in Camden. He finds Violet Park in a cab office at five o’clock in the morning. The only difference is, she’s in an urn.

Feeling a connection sparking between him and Violet, he starts to think about his missing dad and where he might be. Unfortunately his problematic family keep getting in the way, so he takes the urn to his grandparents’ house.

His granddad Norman and brother Jed reveal some unknown information leading Lucas closer to Violet’s past. As Lucas starts to find out more about Violet, he also starts to find out more about his father. But getting to know Violet leads Lucas into a sticky situation.

Not knowing where to start, I chose this book by its cover and I’m really glad I did.

‘If you ask me, low self esteem is what girls live on, instead of food’.

This book was humorous and serious at the same time. It played with my emotions quite a lot and I always wanted to keep reading, just to see what would be on the next page. The relatable character and good use of the first person really helped carry the story along.

I have nothing bad to say about this book at all. It was a very good read.

Overall it deserves 9/10.
