Finding Violet Park

Reviewed by Ben Nurser

Finding Violet Park is a strange novel, the beginning is not as hooking as you would expect. However don't let that put you off. As I travelled deeper into the book it gripped me in parts, but it is a book for stopping and starting: it can get boring, but some parts are absolutely fabulous!

Lucas has always wondered what happened to his dad. He disappeared a couple of years ago leaving no trace. However one day he meets Violet Park and finds out the truth. Lucas has always thought of his father as a hero, but will he change his mind? But Violet Park isn’t all she makes out to be, and leads Lucas into a few situations I would rather not have been in myself.

This novel involves completely different emotions – love, anger, sadness and much more – which leads me to think that it definitely deserves at least the short list, and on that part was very enjoyable. I was surprised at how enthralling it was as I am used to reading more action books, but this is a rather more discreet read.

Maybe the dialogue could be worked on but I guess it isn’t a novel for talking, rather for working with people’s minds and emotions, as I thought it was gripping at times but lacks that little edge that keeps you glued to the page for hours.

I haven't read anything else by this author but I can't wait to lay my hands on another novel of his.

In my opinion you'd be mad not to try it and so it deserves 8.5/10, brilliant!
