Finding Violet Park

Reviewed by Niall Mordecai

‘I met Violet after she died, but that didn’t stop me from getting to know her.'

Sixteen-year-old Lucas Swain is in a cab office one night when he becomes alerted by an urn on the shelf: inside are the ashes of Violet Park, an old lady who should mean nothing to him. But for some reason Lucas made it his mission to rescue these ashes and figure out what's behind them.

The author Jenny Valentine uses a lot of different styles of writing this book: she sometimes uses bullet points to explain what Lucas is thinking, and she used a script style of writing in a few of the pages. I liked the way in which she does this because it gives you a good and simple way explaining something without writing loads of pages about it.

What I didn’t like about this book is that Lucas went on and on about his family instead of the actual main story, which I found very annoying and boring to read.

As the story unfolds it becomes more and more difficult to put the book down. The plot is very well thought out and it has some great twists to it which makes it a great read.

But this book does have its occasional moments of laughter and sadness, I would recommend this book to any teenager, and I would rate it 8/10.
