Finding Violet Park

Reviewed by Chris Bewley

I have enjoyed this book a lot. It is challenging and it makes you think.

Lucas Swain's father is dead, or at least they think he is. So now lives with his Mum, brother and sister. One day, he wanders into a cab company’s office and by chance is immediately attracted to the urn of Violet Park, which is on a window sill there. He then decides that he is going to find its rightful owner and give Violet Park the resting place she deserves.

The story then unwinds very cleverly and surprisingly as he tries to track down Violet Park. But as he is doing this he keeps learning some uncomfortable things about his supposedly dead father. As the story goes along his and Violet Park’s stories collide, in a very unexpected way. And as you reach the end it does not leave you disappointed in its conclusion, although it does let you ponder on a few unanswered questions.

This book is a very good length and does not drag on unnecessarily. I would give it 8 or 9 out of 10  and would recommend it to any teenager
