I thought that this book got off to a very slow start, but by the middle I began to enjoy it and couldn’t put it down. At the very beginning I found it hard to carry on reading and not give up and read a new book.
It was very descriptive and I could imagine the place in my head and being there. I was a little bit disappointed at the beginning and thought the book focused too much on churches and prayers.
I think that Siobhan Dowd thought up the characters very well and I could imagine them being real people and not just images of my imagination.
In the middle I felt that the characters really came alive for me as Siobhan Dowd built them up.
This was a story about a young girl in Ireland going through issues that even an adult would find hard to cope with; like loss, discovery and tragedy.
Over all I thought that this was an excellent book once I got into it and am happy that I did not give up at the beginning.
