A Swift Pure Cry is a story about a 15 year old girl, Shell, who is
suffering from the loss of her mam, and the lack of care, given by her
father. When she's not looking after her younger brother and sister, she is
sharing cigarettes with her best friends, Bridie and Declan. The novel
continues, when she finds herself in the middle of a scandal, that troubles
everyone, living in the small Irish village.
I felt A Swift Pure Cry had a very slow start, but once you got past
that stage, the story was gripping and very good. It definitely made you want to
read on. I wasn't, however, satisfied with the ending, as I thought it didn't
come to any sort of conclusion, and so, was a little bit of a
disappointment.
Overall, I think the book had a very interesting story and was well written.
