The Road of the Dead

Reviewed by Lucy Shepherd

From the outset of this book the reader is in for a violent roller-coaster of a ride. On learning of the brutal rape and murder of their sister two brothers go in search of her body in order to return it for burial. When they start asking questions in the village where the incident occurred they soon come up against resistance and resentment. The book deploys many page-turning tricks without having substance. The characters are two-dimensional and the story line highly improbable. I am unable to reveal the dénouement as I put down the book three pages before the end. A winner? I hope not.
