The Road of the Dead

Reviewed by Lizzie Pearce

When Ruben and his big brother Cole are told that their sister, Rachel, had been killed whilst visiting a friend in Lychcombe, all they want is to have her body back. They travel down there to discover what happened and find themselves in much deeper trouble than they could have ever expected. It seems that Rachel’s death was much more complicated than ever. At first it seems that Abbie (the friend that Rachel was staying with) and her husband Vince were just being friendly when they invited Ruben and Cole to stay with them. Quite soon however you discover that they’re not quite as innocent as they seem.

I found that the first fifty pages were very slow but the book became more interesting once Ruben and Cole arrived in Lychcombe. I thought that the story line was good but that it wasn’t put together very well. The middle seemed more as if it should have been a lot nearer the end of the book. The descriptions were very good; I could picture everywhere they went and everyone they met.

I would recommend this book to others, even though it is definitely not my favourite of the six on the short list. It is the way that it was written that made me dislike it but it was still very gripping. I liked the story line and did not find it boring, after they arrived in Lychcombe.
