The Road of the Dead

Reviewed by Luke Addison

On a wet and windy night, a 19-year-old girl is kidnapped, raped, and killed. Three days later, her two younger brothers, who are fed up with the police, their useless advice and their remarkable ability to get steadily NOWHERE, set out in search of her murderer.

Cole, 17, is a dark-eyed and sometimes dark-hearted devil who doesn't care what happens to him but is very protective of his siblings. Ruben, however, 14, is a strange child who sometimes, unexplainably, experiences sensations that are not his own. This is the story of the boys' journey from their half-gypsy home on an East London street, to the ghostly, desolate moors of Devon, where they hope and fear to find the truth about their sister's death. The road is not always easy and their means sometimes don’t keep in league with the law, but these two boys are men on a mission.

This is a gripping tale, written with such passion that it makes you believe what is going on. I for one would like to read a sequel to this book.
