David Case is a normal boy, or so his mother thinks. His brain wanders to all sorts of extreme possibilities, and he can’t stop thinking ‘what if’? His friends are beginning to lose all faith in him. He struggles through mental difficulties, all of which are upsetting for everyone. Things all kick off after the near encounter of his brother, Charlie, trying to fly.
When I picked this book I was expecting it to be a book all about superstion, but it focused on that, with the addition of other factors in David’s life. Although I did enjoy reading this book, I found the beginning slow and confusing, but as soon as it got going it was a very good read. The ending was blunt and unsatisfying, and I thought Meg Rosoff could have rounded it off better.
