Just in Case

Reviewed by Elizabeth Cottrell

Just in Case tells the story of fifteen year-old David Case who suffers terrible events which lead him to believe 'fate' is out to get him.

Justin, formally David, becomes obsessed with the question 'what if?' He changes his image, his style and even his name all so fate doesn't recognize him.

Mental, you say? Maybe not. The whole thing kicks off because his younger brother, Charlie, tries to fly. Through his journey with fate he picks up a companion, his imaginary dog, and discovers a new talent. He also falls in love with a nineteen year-old girl, Agnes; she doesn’t love him back, but has sex with him anyway!

The first few chapters of the book were short but sweet and really got me hooked. It was a quite serious novel, but had the occasional laugh. Halfway through, after meeting Agnes, Justin develops a drive for sex and a slightly over-the-top obsession for lust which was a new factor in a book for me. The ending really did the book proud.

I couldn’t really find any faults with this book, definitely a book to read!
