Before I had read this book, I had heard other people raving about it and saying how good a story it was; sadly I didn’t agree. There were times when I found myself skim reading just so I could finish it. It was just too confusing: no fifteen-year-old boy is going to go into school acting like he has an imaginary dog by his side, or change his name on the spot and not answer to his old one. I also found the lack of description annoying; it was hard to keep up with the story at times.
Although I have just spent the last paragraph complaining at how bad the book was, it does have some good points. The story deals very well with emotion; you can feel Justin’s terror and Agnes’s guilt. Overall I would give the book 5/10. Anyone over the age of fourteen would probably rate it seven or eight as they would find it easier to understand.
