Beast
is about a young man who’s had a troubled upbringing and is just finding his
feet in the real world. He is also caring for a beast, which proves to be hard
because he doesn’t have much money to buy his pet food.
The reason I liked the book so much is because there’s action and comedy from
the beginning. I don’t think Ally Kennen wrote it to be a comedy but all the
same some bits made me laugh. For me it’s cleverly written because I think it
portrays a number of youth in the 21st century – minus the
caring-for-a-beast bit obviously.
This book is a true page-turner and I recommend it to anyone over the age of
twelve. I’d rate it 7½ out of 10.
