Framed

Reviewed by Joel Duddell

Framed is a new book from last year’s Carnegie award winner, Frank Cottrell Boyce.  His début novel Millions was given extraordinary praise and his latest story certainly lives up to his now famous reputation.

Set in a remote Welsh mountain village called Manod, this story is told by Dylan Hughes, a young boy, living with his parents, his baby brother Max, his younger sister Minnie and his older sister Marie.  The Hugheses jointly run a petrol station which also sells other random bits and pieces.  Young Dylan has an innocent obsession with “the turtles” that seems harmless enough.  This all changes when a mysterious man, Lester, comes to the mountain town on unknown business.  Other problems come Dylan’s way and the story forces you to read on.

This book was a great read, a good book for anyone between the ages of eleven to fifteen.  It was slightly confusing at times though and the ending was rather strange.
