Clay

Reviewed by Tom Storvik

“Fish face! Fish face!”

Clay is about a boy named Davie. He has left school to learn how to become an altar boy at a church and he is bullied by Mouldy, a sixteen year-old boy, the size of a full-grown man who likes to drink a lot. But one day a boy named Stephen Rose turned up in town to live with Crazy Mary. Davie and his friend Geordie, the other altar boy, are told to make friends with him. But this only leads to trouble and pain for everyone when Stephen tricks Davie into making a monster.

This is a 298-page book that grabbed me from the moment I picked it up and that is why I am giving this story 9/10; it had the one fault of not being set in the modern day that all children would know more about.
