Clay is a story set in Felling, an ordinary Catholic town, until, one day, a strange boy comes to town. Stephen Rose comes to live with his aunt, Crazy Mary. Davie befriends Stephen, while his friend wants to keep away. There is something deep and sinister about the clay models Stephen Rose makes. She they trust him? Or keep away…
I have read many books, and out of all of them Clay is one of the worst. The language in it is simple, but nothing happened. The characters are not described properly, so even after I have finished it I have no idea what the characters' ages or personalities are. I also still have no idea what they look like.
I found that at the end Clay started to get interesting and a story finally appeared. But then, of course, it ended rather quickly. The story was never descriptive so it left me no clear picture in my mind’s eye.
I was very glad when I’d finished it. I would never recommend Clay. I even thought the book jacket was dead boring.
I am very disappointed with this read. I think the age rating should be 12–15
I give it 3/10
