‘Geordie held his monster up.
“Hello, Davieboy,” it growled. “Me is hungry.”’
Clay is an easy read but with a good story. The story starts with a strange boy named Stephen Rose who comes to live in the house of ‘Crazy Mary’, a very religious and spiritual character. The main character, Davie, is an altar boy along with Geordie and they are both Catholics. Stephen has a special talent that he can bring things to life and in this book it happens to be clay. Stephen’s father has died and his mother has gone mad so Stephen is left to go and stay with Crazy Mary. Can Davie help stop himself and Stephen from creating a monster?
The only other book I have reviewed is Framed by Frank Cottrell Boyce, and in my opinion Clay is the far better book.
This is a great book. I would rate it 7/10. David Almond has produced another winner. A very descriptive book, it shows realistic emotions written in the first person. The book is available in hard back and is nearly 300 pages long.
