Millions

Reviewed by Cameron Blackwell

I know that the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” but the initial reason I chose Millions as my book was because the cover looks as if it could be a reasonably interesting book. How wrong I was.

The story is told by Demain, the younger of the two brothers. The story is set in the not-so-distant future when Britain joins the Euro, which makes money seem to fall out of the sky. It is he who finds the money, and it is he who has the problems as to what to do with it, which can sometimes become annoying because you just want to shout out and tell him not to do this,  that and the other with the money.

Another problem with the book is that Demain is over-enthusiastic about saints and won’t stop talking about them, which can really get on your nerves.

Finally, I believe that the book is not for our age-group and is more suited for younger children because of the simple language. As you can see I am not very impressed with this book and am amazed that it got onto the short list in the first place. Overall I would give it a low 2/10.
