The Star of Kazan surprised as a book, as I usually go for more real stories unlike this one. It is set in 1900s Vienna and the main character is an orphaned girl named Annika. She was left by her mother in a church while she was a baby and was taken in by maids Ellie and Sigrid. She is brought up as a maid totally unaware of her past. When her mother eventually returns Annika leaves behind her carers and friends and pursues a future with her mother. But all is not as it seems.
This book although good has an awkward and some may think inappropriate title that drew many of my classmates to read it as their first choice.
All in all this book is an excellent fantasy novel which envelopes you in its own world and keeps you turning the pages. I must admit, though, it took me a while to get into this book so I will give it eight out of ten.
