The Star of Kazan is a great, well-thought-out book, but seems to be about nothing you would think it’s about going by the cover. The cover has a red background with a big jewel on the front. Personally I thought it would be about maybe a murder/mystery or something along those lines but is about a 12 year-old girl called Annika whose mum dumped her when she was little; she was then found by two maids and is looked after by three professors.
It is a really good book and a real page-turner but doesn’t seem to have any plot. The book is set in the early 1900s and is about 400 pages long. It then develops and the book is about the next few years of Annika's life.
It's a good book and would give it a 8 out of 10.
