Looking for JJ

Reviewed by Vincent Martin

“She stood there looking at the lifeless body in front of her. What had she done? She heard a small cry and new that it wasn’t from Michelle. Then she saw it. The cat just stayed there licking its paws. “Michelle?” although she new she wouldn’t get an answer. She looked at the bat and dropped it in shock. On there was a reddy brown stain mixing into the fibres of the wood”

This was an extremely good book to read and kept you turning the page chapter after chapter. The story is a strong one (although quite dark) and describes the life of young Jennifer Jones (nicknamed JJ) and her mother. They move frequently due to her mother’s job and Jennifer ends up doing a horrific crime involving her best friend and so has to change her identity.

The story is moving and keeps switching between the past and present (the present being Jennifer with a new identity and the past being when she did the crime). I think that Anne Cassidy has done very well in describing the emotions and feelings of people and the power of anger.

The cover of the book isn’t as outstanding as I thought, the story being as it is I think the book could’ve had a bit of a better cover. On the other hand the cover is quite artistic. I liked this book a lot and the story is an extremely good one.

I really enjoyed this book.
