The book written by Anne Cassidy is based on the true story where James Bulger was killed by two friends of his. The book cover wasn’t very interesting and I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if I hadn’t been given it.
My first thoughts on the book were that it was good; Anne Cassidy has a nice way of writing where it keeps flowing through the pages and is an easy read. The book is based on a girl called Alice (JJ) who is trying to leave her past behind her but can’t: it seems to be always plaguing her mind. It is not only that though, she has a minder who looks after her called Rosie and a boyfriend named Frankie who is forcing her into things she doesn’t want to do. She is given a new identity, address and life.
The book deals with the subject ‘can people leave their past behind?’ The book keeps flicking from past to present which makes it very confusing, and means you have to read the book slowly to get the full grasp of the story. It is set in modern day England, and is 300 pages long exactly.
The only problem I feel with this book is that it is too repetitive, she seems to repeat the story too much; this just makes it a bit tedious to read.
I would give this book 7/10.
