Looking for JJ is one of Anne Cassidy’s many books. The cover is quite simple, however the picture is intriguing as it shows a paper chain of three figures cut from a newspaper with the headline and article of a child murder, although one of the figures has been torn off.
It is a contemporary novel set in modern times and is written either in the third person or the first person, and changes from the main character’s life in the present, to her past and then back to the present.
It is about a girl called Alice Tully, who has a strange and disturbing past which she is trying to hide and move on from, but no matter how hard she tries to put it behind her it still comes back to haunt her and she realises that she will never be able to escape from it as it is part of her life.
It makes the reader think about stereotypes and whether people can change and make other people’s attitudes change.
I couldn’t put the book down as it absorbs you straight away and you feel included in the story. It flows well, is easy to read and Anne Cassidy uses descriptive words well without overdoing it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, however I think they would get the best experience out of it if they were mature about the book as parts of it can be quite dark.
