I have just completed Heartbeat by Sharon Creech. Heartbeat was presented differently to any other book I have read. The front cover had a simple design however the half-bitten apple logo drew me in. The paper used in the book was fairly thick and a murky white colour. The font was medium size and the writing in a rhythm formation.
The book wasn't very long as there wasn't a lot of writing on each page. There weren't any illustrations involved in the book which was disappointing. The language was fairly easy to understand but there were a few words which I found difficult to understand. The book was set in the 21st century. Annie the main character didn't have a very exciting rôle in the book and the other characters were very vague.
The main storyline involves two best friends who love to run together and Annie's mum is expecting her second baby. I feel that the book was targeted at a young audience. Sharon Creech is a good author however her style of writing isn't what I particularly enjoy. I think that if the book had a storyline that was exciting and made me want to read on; I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
Overall I would have rated this book 4/10 and I don't think that I would recommend it in the future.
