You meet a teenage boy called Moose who has recently moved to his new home in Alcatraz. Alcatraz is home to a prison full of lethal offenders and one of them is Al Capone.
The novel is set in 1935 but you couldn’t really tell that unless you knew about gangsters. You see through the eyes of Moose Flanagan who is finding it hard to fit into his new school. Just to add to his troubles his sister Natalie has autism. He would always have to come home and look after Natalie and therefore couldn’t play 'ball'. His father is a guard in Alcatraz and has no time to see Moose.
Moose then gets into a scheme to get money out of the prisoners. Will he get caught? He meets a young girl called Piper and she is a mysterious person. Piper is friends with Moose’s best friend at school Scout. “Why should I help you? You treat me like something stuck to the bottom of your shoe.”
This book has many different plots but I think the ending had spoiled the whole book, agreeing with Tom Randall. This book has been a great read and I think most people will enjoy it.
