The Fire Eaters (David Almond)

Reviewed by Richard James

I found this book extremely hard to read. I only read part of it and then gave up as it became boring, and there was very little happening.

The story starts with the small boy, Bobby Burns, and his experience with a crazed man. This part of the book is strange and twisted with a crazed man asking for money in return for a show. The story picks up at this point and this is the first piece with moderately interesting events. As far as I read the book gets no better than this.

I feel this book was a let-down and most people in the group felt it was not up to the quality of some of the others. I feel that the author might have been able to do better, and made the book more interesting.

I give this book a 4/10 from what I have read.
